This Week at NCDOT: Holiday Travel, Booze It & Lose It, and NC By Train

RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department’s weekly newscast.

Holiday Travel

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is suspending most construction activity along major highways to keep traffic flowing for holiday travel.

Work along interstates, U.S., and key state routes will be suspended beginning the morning of Dec. 23 and will resume the evening of Dec. 27.

For the New Year's Holiday, major construction will also be halted from the morning of Dec. 31 to the evening of January 3.

Some projects will continue with work that doesn’t impact travel lanes, and other long-term lane closures will remain on select projects as well.

Don’t forget, before you hit the road, check out driveNC.gov for real-time, up to date traffic information.

Booze It & Lose It

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program continues its Booze It & Lose It campaign through the holiday season.

Law enforcement officials are stepping up patrols across the state in an effort to stop impaired drivers.

As a reminder, never drive impaired and always find a safe ride home.
