Johnston County Roads Will Be Affected by Railroad Maintenance

CLAYTON – Norfolk Southern plans to temporarily close several roads in the Clayton and Selma areas to replace wooden railway ties and do other track maintenance.

The railroad has informed the N.C. Department of Transportation the closures tentatively will start Monday and last into March. Each closure may last between one to three days.

The railroad can't say exactly which railroad crossing will be closed on which day, so drivers should expect in the coming few weeks to encounter barricades at the following roads for the railroad maintenance:

  • Bear Farm Road
  • Buffalo Road
  • Crocker Street
  • Fire Department Road
  • Green Street
  • N.C. 42
  • North Neil Street
  • Pollock Street
  • Powhatan Road
  • Raiford Street
  • Shotwell Road
  • Summer Street
  • West Oak Road
  • West Stallings Street
  • North Webb Street
  • Wilson's Mills Road/Jones Road

The railroad contractor will be responsible for erecting detour signs.

On a related note, some of the affected roads were closed for a few hours this month for preliminary track work ahead of the maintenance crews.
