Merrimon Avenue Open House Set for Monday

ASHEVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation and City of Asheville are hosting an in-person open house from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, at the North Asheville Community Center, 37 E. Larchmont Rd, Asheville, NC 28804.

NCDOT and the City are reviewing a proposal to reconfigure a section of Merrimon Avenue (U.S. 25) as part of NCDOT's upcoming resurfacing project. The consideration under review is whether to implement a four-lane to three-lane conversion proposed for the section of Merrimon Avenue between W.T. Weaver Boulevard and Midland Road (at Beaver Lake), in order to improve safety and to support equitable mobility.

The in-person open house will provide the same information that is available on the project website and is targeted for those who prefer in-person meetings or for those who wish to discuss concerns face-to-face with staff. The public will have the opportunity to review the proposal, provide feedback, and discuss the topic with staff from both agencies.

NCDOT, in partnership with the City of Asheville, collaborated on a web-based StoryMap to explain the concept of the proposal in more detail. At the end of the StoryMap, users may access a 19-question survey to provide public comments. The public survey will be open and available until March 23, 2022.
