Resurfacing Projects Awarded for Wake County

RALEIGH – Almost 60 miles of area roadway will be resurfaced, thanks to two new contracts totaling $16.2 million awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

  • Under a $8.8 million contract, Fred Smith Company of Raleigh will mill and resurface pavement and improve shoulders along 34.4 miles of state-maintained roads throughout northern Wake County. Major routes to be resurfaced include an 8.7-mile stretch of N.C. 98/Durham Road between the Durham County Line and Vermillion Court, and the 2.5-mile stretch of N.C. 98 Business in Wake Forest. This work may begin this summer and must be complete by the end of next fall.
  • Under a $7.4 million contract, Fred Smith Company will mill and resurface pavement and improve shoulders along 24.4 miles of state-maintained roads throughout southern Wake County. Some of the roads to be resurfaced include a 10-mile stretch of Ten-Ten Road/Center Street from U.S. 401 to Salem Street in Apex, along with Penny, Ransdell, Air Park and Dwight Rowland roads. This work may begin this summer and must be complete by the end of next fall.
