Closures Upcoming for I-40 Improvements Project

WINSTON-SALEM – Contract crews have planned multiple closures over the next week as part of the ongoing Interstate 40 pavement and bridge improvements project in Forsyth County.

The closures will enable crews to safely work on removing and replacing deteriorating concrete slabs along the interstate. Their times and locations are as follows:

8 p.m. Friday-8 p.m. Saturday: The left lane of I-40 East near N.C. 66.

9 p.m. Friday-8 p.m. Saturday: The right lane of I-40 West near N.C. 66, and the left two lanes of I-40 West between U.S. 52 and east of Peters Creek Parkway. The ramp from U.S. 52 North to I-40 West (Exit 107B) is set to close from 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, with a signed detour utilizing U.S. 421.

10 p.m. Friday-8 a.m. Saturday: The right lane and right collector lane of I-40 East from U.S. 421 to past Stratford Road, followed by a double right lane closure extending past Peters Creek Parkway. This will also require closing the ramp from I-40 East to Stratford Road (Exit 189). A detour for this closure will have traffic use the U.S. 52 interchange to head back on I-40 West to access Stratford Road.

8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday: One of two lanes of I-40 West between mile markers 197-198, and from the Guilford County line to N.C. 66.

8 p.m. Monday-6 a.m. Tuesday: Two of three lanes of I-40 West from west of U.S. 52 to mile marker 189.5, to open by 5 a.m. Also, one of two southbound lanes on the Stratford Road bridge over the interstate, beginning at 10 p.m. Monday.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: From 8 p.m. to 5 the following mornings, two of three lanes of I-40 West from U.S. 52 to east of Peters Creek Parkway.

Drivers should be mindful of crews working close to the travel lanes in these areas and allow extra time for the detours.
