DUNN – The right lane of Interstate 95 South at Exit 73 in Harnett County will remain closed until the bridge can be repaired.
A commercial truck hauling an excavator on U.S. 421 struck the I-95 bridge on Friday afternoon, damaging the steel girders. The N.C. Department of Transportation was summoned to the bridge and inspected it Friday.
Inspectors for NCDOT determined it was safe to reopen I-95, which crosses over U.S. 421. But as a precaution, the interstate's right lane southbound will remain closed until the steel beams can be repaired.
A emergency contractor that specializes in these kind of repairs will begin repairs sometime next week, but a timeline of when the repairs can be completed is not clear yet.
