Two Nights of Closures on I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – Starting tonight and tomorrow, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close ramps and lanes along Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.

The following lane closures are scheduled to take place between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning:

  • On April 19-20, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from west of U.S. 52 to west of Peters Creek Parkway.
  • On April 19, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from west of Highway 66 to Union Cross Road.
  • On April 19-20, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from west of Peters Creek Parkway to west of U.S. 52.
  • On April 19-20, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 East from west of Union Cross Road to east of Union Cross Road.

The following ramp closures are scheduled to take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • On April 19, the ramp from I-40 East to Peters Creek Parkway (Exit 192) is scheduled to be closed. A signed detour directing traffic to U.S. 52 North and back to I-40 West will be in place.
  • On April 20, the ramps from Peters Creek Parkway to I-40 East and I-40 West are scheduled to be closed simultaneously. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to Silas Creek Parkway to return to I-40 East and Silas Creek Parkway, I-40 East and U.S. 52 to return to I-40 West.

The following ramp closures are scheduled to take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • On April 19-20, two of three southbound lanes on the Peters Creek Parkway bridge over I-40 are tentatively scheduled to be closed.
  • On April 19, the ramp from Peters Creek Parkway to I-40 East is tentatively scheduled to be closed. A signed detour directing traffic to I-40 West, Hanes Mall Boulevard and back to I-40 East will be in place. 
  • On April 20, two of four northbound lanes are scheduled to be closed on the Stratford Road bridge over I-40.

The I-40 West ramp to Peters Creek Parkway is tentatively scheduled to be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. the following morning. A signed detour directing traffic to Hanes Mall Boulevard and I-40 East to return to Peters Creek Parkway will be in place.

Motorists are reminded to use caution while traveling through the work zones and plan for delays due to the detours.
