John Belk Freeway Lane, Ramp Closures Begin Tonight

CHARLOTTE – Starting tonight, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will be working on the John Belk Freeway end of Interstate 277 for the next few weeks.

At 9 p.m., crews will close travel lanes and ramps intermittently on the inner loop between I-77 and U.S. 74 to safely install pavement markings and markers. Work will wrap up by 6 a.m. Thursday, continuing each night for the next few weeks.

Lane closures will be allowed stay in place until 9 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays and can start as early as 6 p.m. Saturdays.

Once work is completed on the inner loop, crews will move operations to the outer loop next week.

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.
