Closures Starting Tonight on I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – Starting tonight and continuing through the week, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close lanes of Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:

  • Today through Thursday, two of three lanes of I-40 East are scheduled to be closed from west of Peters Creek Parkway to west of U.S. 52.
  • Today and Wednesday, one of two lanes of I-40 East is scheduled to be closed from Highway 74 to Highpoint Road.
  • Today, one of two lanes of I-40 East is scheduled to be closed from west of Union Cross Road to east of Union Cross Road.
  • On Wednesday, two of three lanes on I-40 East are scheduled to be closed from east of Lewisville Clemmons Road to west of McGregor Road.
  • On Thursday, one of two lanes of I-40 East is scheduled to be closed from west of Union Cross Road to east of Highway 66.
  • On Thursday, two of three lanes of I-40 West are scheduled to be closed from west of the I-40/ U.S. 421 split to east of McGregor Road.
  • On Thursday, two of three lanes on I-40 West are scheduled to be closed from U.S. 52 to east of Peters Creek Parkway.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • Today through Thursday, two of three northbound lanes are scheduled to be closed on the Peters Creek bridge that crosses over I-40.
  • Today through Thursday, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed in both directions on Hanes Mall Boulevard below I-40. 
  • Today, the ramp from Union Cross Road to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour directing traffic to Old Salem Road and Highway 66 to return to I-40 East.

Today and Wednesday, the ramp from Highway 74/U.S. 311 West to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed at 8 p.m. and will be reopened no later than 6 a.m. the following morning with a signed detour directing traffic to I-40 West and N.C. 109 to return to I-40 East.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.
