Overnight Closures Planned at I-440/Western Boulevard Interchange

​RALEIGH – Work that is part of the Interstate 440 Improvements Project will require overnight closures at the Western Boulevard interchange. 

Tonight, Western Boulevard underneath I-440 will be closed in both directions from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day as crews place girders on the new bridge over Western Boulevard. This same section will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. on Friday, Monday and Tuesday, weather dependent. 

During the time of the closures, westbound traffic on Western Boulevard will be directed on to I-440 East and Hillsborough Street (Exit 3) to turn around and take I-440 West to Western Boulevard (Exit 2). Traffic on I-440 East wanting to go west on Western Boulevard will follow this detour as well. The westbound detour is viewable here. 

Eastbound Western Boulevard traffic will be directed on to I-440 West and Melbourne Road (Exit 1D) and then to I-440 East to Western Boulevard (Exit 2). Traffic on I-440 West wanting to go east on Western Boulevard will follow the same detour. The eastbound detour is viewable here​. 

Motorists need to slow down and pay extra attention as they travel through the work zone.
