Construction of New Traffic Pattern to Begin in Lenoir County

KINSTON – Construction of a new traffic pattern on U.S. 70 in Lenoir County is scheduled to begin Monday morning.

Reduced conflict intersections (RCIs) are being constructed at U.S. 70 and Kennedy Home and Eason roads. Drivers will no longer be able to cross over the highway or make a left turn from those side streets. Traffic will have to make a right turn and travel a short distance to the next median crossover, reducing the risk of a crash.

To learn more about an RCI, visit this department webpage.

Crews plan to begin construction at 6:45 a.m. May 9. One lane of east and westbound U.S. 70 will close while crews are working, approximately 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily. Lane closures are scheduled to last through May 27, but there will not be any Fridays through Sundays.

Drivers are encouraged to remain alert of the new traffic pattern and avoid the area if possible while construction crews are working.
