Two Nights of Closures on I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – On Sunday and Monday, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close lanes and ramps of Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:

  • On May 8-9, two of three lanes of I-40 East are scheduled to be closed from west of Peters Creek Parkway to west of U.S. 52.
  • On May 8, one of two lanes of I-40 West is scheduled to be closed from the Guilford County line to east of Union Cross Road; on May 9, one lane of I-40 East will be closed in the same area.
  • On May 8, one of two lanes of I-40 East is scheduled to be closed from west of Union Cross Road to west of Highway 66.
  • On May 8-9, two of three lanes of I-40 West are scheduled to be closed from west of the I-40/ U.S. 421 split to east of McGregor Road.
  • On May 9, two of three lanes are scheduled to be closed on I-40 West from U.S. 52 to east of Peters Creek Parkway. 

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • On May 8, two of three northbound lanes are scheduled to be closed on the Peters Creek bridge that crosses over I-40.
  • On May 8, one of two northbound lanes is scheduled to be closed on Hanes Mall Boulevard below I-40. 
  • On May 8, the offramp from I-40 West to Highway 66 is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour directing traffic to continue on I-40 West to Union Cross Road and I-40 East to return to Highway 66.
  • On May 8, the onramp from Highway 66 to I-40 West is scheduled to be closed with signed detours directing traffic to Shields Road and Union Cross Road or Old Salem Road and Union Cross Road to access I-40 West, depending on direction of travel.
  • On May 9, the ramp from Silas Creek Parkway to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed with a signed detour directing traffic to Peters Creek Parkway to access I-40 East.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.
