Closures Continue on I-40 in Forsyth County

WINSTON-SALEM – On Sunday and Monday, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close lanes and ramps of Interstate 40 in Forsyth County for an ongoing rehabilitation and bridge preservation project, weather permitting.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning:

  • On May 15, one of two lanes of I-40 East are scheduled to be closed from Highway 66 to the Guildford County line.
  • On May 15 and 16, one of two lanes of I-40 East are scheduled to be closed from U.S. 74 to High Point Road.
  • On May 15, two of three lanes of I-40 East are scheduled to be closed from Buchanan Street to Silas Creek Parkway.
  • On May 15, two of three lanes of I-40 West are scheduled to be closed from just east of Silas Creek Parkway to the bridge over Salem Creek.
  • On May 15 and 16, one of two lanes are scheduled to be closed on the U.S. 421 South exit ramp to I-40 East.
  • On May 16, one of two lanes of I-40 West are scheduled to be closed from the Guilford County line to just west of Highway 66.
  • On May 16, two of three lanes of I-40 West are scheduled to be closed from U.S. 52 to the bridge over Salem Creek.

The following nightly closures are scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning:

  • On May 15 and 16, the two right lanes of Union Cross Road southbound are scheduled to be closed. Traffic will be shifted around the work area.
  • On May 15, the I-40 East off ramp to Highway 66 is scheduled to be closed.  Motorists should follow the signed detour.
  • On May 15 and 16, the on ramp from Highway 66 to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour.
  • On May 15 and 16, the on ramp from Silas Creek Parkway to I-40 East is scheduled to be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour. 

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone and plan accordingly for delays.​
