Raeford Road in Fayetteville Requires Temporary Lane Closures

FAYETTEVILLE – Drivers will encounter reduced lanes on Raeford Road near Ireland Drive next week for shoulder repairs.

Erosion over time has damaged the shoulder and slope along Raeford Road where a culvert carries Buckhead Creek underneath the road. Maintenance crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will use dump trucks and excavators to add dirt and rip rap to the side of the road to make the repairs.

To safely conduct the work, the NCDOT will close two of the three travel lanes headed east – toward the All American Freeway – from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays starting May 31.

At other times of the day and on weekends, only one of the three travel lanes will remain closed.

Drivers should slow down, be aware of workers and equipment in the roadway and expect delays traveling through the work zone.

The department hopes to complete the repairs by June 10, weather permitting.

The department made repairs to the inside of the culvert earlier this month without the need to close any lanes.
