Statesville Avenue Exit Ramp Closures Return

CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close the exit ramp from Interstate 77 North to Statesville Avenue as part of a $15.3 million contract to improve approximately seven miles of I-85 between exits 36 and 42.

The ramp was closed in April to safely remove and rebuild its existing concrete surface. Crews will now perform diamond grinding, a pavement preservation technique used to improve its smoothness and rideability. This work will require closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. June 6-8.

Drivers can get around the closure by taking exit 12 (LaSalle Street) to access Statesville Avenue. Drivers exiting from I-77 North will be able to continue to I-85.

Another set of closures is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday, June 10 until 6 a.m. Monday, June 13, affecting both exit ramps from I-85 and I-77 to Statesville Avenue. The contractor will cut and seal concrete joints, cut signal loops, and apply pavement markings and markers.

The same detour will be in place, utilizing LaSalle Street as an alternate route.

NCDOT will display alerts on nearby overhead message boards when possible, in addition to the contractor's portable message signs.
