CONCORD— The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $331,970 contract to Reeves Construction Company of Duncan, S.C. to build a roundabout at the intersection of Roberta Road/Cochran Road/Brookville Avenue in Concord.
The project can get underway as early as July 11, and the contract calls for the roundabout to open to drivers no later than August 26. Landscaping and vegetation establishment can continue through March 8, 2023.
During construction, drivers will be detoured along Cochran Road, Roberta Road, Blackwelder Road, N.C. 49 and Stough Road, returning to Roberta Road.
Roundabouts improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. They also help reduce the congestion and backups more typical at traditional intersections with stop signs and traffic signals.
NCDOT has produced a video showing how roundabouts work and improve overall safety.
