The $6.7 million replacement will begin with an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor installing signs and mobilizing equipment as early as July 18. Crews from Smith-Rowe LLC will start the project by building a temporary bridge.
By December, traffic in both directions of N.C. 87 should be using that bridge, allowing crews to construct the new permanent bridge.
Construction of the new bridge is expected to complete by summer 2024.
Motorists should remain alert and slow down as they travel near the work zone.
