Improvements Coming to Davidson County Highway

THOMASVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close segments of a road in Davidson County this week as part of the ongoing construction project along U.S. 29/70.

Beginning Friday at 9 a.m., portions of Old Greensboro Road and Caldcleugh Road at Davidson Davie Community College (DDCC) and U.S. 29/70 will be closed for construction. All work is expected to be complete by spring 2026.

The following signed detours will be utilized for the duration of the closure:

  • U.S. 29/70 North to Old Greensboro and DDCC:  Northbound motorists will utilize a new exit location to Caldcleugh Road and access Old Greensboro Road. This exit location is located before the existing exit to Old Greensboro Road.
  • U.S. 29/70 South to Old Greensboro and DDCC:  Southbound motorists will follow the signed detour along Evans Road to access Old Greensboro Road. Evans Road is located before the existing exit to Old Greensboro.
  • Old Greensboro Road motorists wishing to access U.S. 29/70 South will follow Caldcleugh Road to the new entrance location.
  • Old Greensboro Road motorists wishing to access U.S. 29/70 North will follow the signed detour of Evans Road to US 29/70 South and immediately U-turn onto U.S. 29/70 North.

Motorists are reminded to use caution when approaching the work zone and expect delays due to the detours.​​
