CHINA GROVE – A section of Shue Road north of China Grove is scheduled to close Tuesday to allow state maintenance crews to replace a drainage pipe.
The 36-inch pipe has reached the end of its service life, begun to collapse and is not properly allowing storm water to flow underneath the roadway.
The closure will begin around 8 a.m. Tuesday about 200 feet north of the road's bridge spanning Grant's Creek. The blue line on this Google map shows the detour for this closure. It will direct drivers onto Corriher Gravel Road, U.S. 29 and North Main Street
The N.C. Department of Transportation expects to complete the improvements and reopen the road by Sept. 16. Because this work cannot be done in rainy conditions, the alternate schedule is to perform this work is Sept. 19-23.
