HENDERSONVILLE – Separate sections of Interstate 26 will close over the next three nights so a contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation can shift traffic into a new pattern.
The integrated corridor management system will hold lights green long along detour routes to accommodate additional traffic.
The contractor has the following schedule:
• Tuesday: I-26 West from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) with traffic detouring along U.S. 64 West to Asheville Highway.
• Wednesday: I-26 East from Airport Road (Exit 40) to Upward Road (Exit 53) with traffic detouring along U.S. 25 South, U.S. 176 East to Upward Road.
• Thursday: I-26 West from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) with traffic detouring along U.S. 64 West to Asheville Highway.
The contractor will utilize the closures to place traffic into the new alignment from Airport Road to Butler Road.
Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert, slow down in work zones and obey all posted signs.
