RALEIGH - The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Traffic Control for NASCAR Race

For the first time since 1996, NASCAR returns to North Wilkesboro.

The 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race will take place this Sunday night at the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway.

The N.C. Department of Transportation encourages race fans to practice patience if traveling to attend the race this weekend.

Fans are also urged to purchase parking early and use the WAZE app for the preferred route to their designated parking lots.

Overhead and portable message signs will be used to alert motorists of problem areas and suggest alternative routes to avoid congestion.

The department also advises motorists to check for real-time traffic information by visiting drivenc.gov from mobile devices.

Internet Wait Times at DMV

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles continues to roll out improvements to enhance customer service.

A new feature is now available on the NCDMV office locations page that displays the current average wait time for all 115 driver license offices in North Carolina.

This new technology is designed to help customers avoid a prolonged wait in line.

As of May 1, walk-in customers are only served after noon at state driver license offices.

Click It or Ticket

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program and its partners will soon launch the 2023 Click It or Ticket campaign to boost the use of seat belts and child safety seats.

Law enforcement agencies will increase the number of patrols and officers in an area, setting up checking stations and using local media to reach out to drivers.
