RALEIGH- Crews working on the Interstate 440 improvements project will shift traffic on I-440 East from Walnut Street to Western Boulevard and close several ramps this weekend, weather permitting.
Starting overnight, the ramp from I-440 East to Western Boulevard will close and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic will need to stay on I-440 and exit at Hillsborough Street, returning on I-440 West to the desired exit.
In addition, other I-440 East interchanges, and lanes from Walnut Street to Western Boulevard will see periodic closures starting Saturday evening through Sunday morning so crews can safely shift traffic in this area. These interchanges include:
- I-40 Ramps to I-440 East
- Jones Franklin Road ramps
- Western Boulevard on ramp
The Melbourne Road ramp to I-440 East will also close Saturday night and remain closed until Monday morning.
NCDOT officials urge drivers to factor these construction activities into their trip and remain alert throughout their work zone.
