CLAYTON – Drivers next week will encounter a detour on N.C. 96 near N.C. 42 as part of ongoing construction.
The closure will affect only N.C. 96 south of its intersection with N.C. 42, where contract crews are constructing a roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow. They need to detour traffic while they remove a drainage pipe and install a larger culvert on N.C. 96.
The closure is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Feb. 19 and end by 5 p.m. Feb. 25. The closure will not affect traffic on N.C. 42.
Drivers will be detoured to take N.C. 42 East, N.C. 39 and Branch Chapel Church Road to avoid the barriers on N.C. 96. They should approach the work site with caution, and factor the longer route into their commute.
