LEWISVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is announcing that the Shallowford Road bridge over U.S. 421 is closed until further notice after a piece of equipment being hauled struck the bridge early Friday morning.
The impact caused significant damage to the bridge, necessitating an immediate closure for safety reasons. NCDOT crews will assess the extent of the damage and begin repairs as soon as possible.
Motorists traveling through the area should use caution and follow posted detours.
