Pitt County Intersection to Become All-Way Stop

BETHEL - The N.C. Department of Transportation will change the traffic pattern at a Pitt County intersection to improve safety.

NCDOT will install stop signs at the intersection of Washington Street (U.S. 64 Alternate) and Main Street (U.S. 13 Business) on Jan. 22. Currently, drivers on Main Steet do not stop at the flashing yellow lights. Those lights will also be changed to red.

While the NCDOT will conduct the work, the Town of Bethel requested the all-way stop and is funding it.

Drivers should be alert in these areas while crews work to install the new traffic pattern and use caution when approaching the intersection.

An all-way stop is an effective and cost-efficient way to improve the safety of an intersection and reduce the risk of serious crashes. To learn more about an all-way stop, visit this webpage.
