What is a division and how do I know what division I live in?

NCDOT operates in 14 regions across the state, referred to as highway divisions. Each division has the responsibility to build and maintain state-owned bridges and highways. Use the division map to find your county and the highway division where you reside.

Why doesn't the map show specific dates for when projects will be finished?

Construction and project development are complex. Different factors like funding, weather, required studies and reports can influence projects and milestones can shift. For this map, NCDOT is presenting a generalized timeframe instead of specific dates.

Why don't all projects have milestones?

Projects that are not committed for funding in the current State Transportation Improvement Program do not show milestones as they will be reassessed at a future time and their schedule is yet to be determined.

Do projects stay on the map after they are completed?

Before a project is closed out by NCDOT, certain items listed in the contract must be completed. Once those items are finished, the project will be removed from the map.
