Equal Employment & Affirmative Action

The N.C. Department of Transportation's Equal Employment Opportunity Office, or EEO, ensures the Department is compliant with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination and workplace harassment on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age (40+), sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, genetic information, religion, veteran status and National Guard status, as well as retaliation.

Some key components of the program include:

  • Ensures that all Human Resource practices are fair and equitable.
  • Monitoring, data collection and analysis of workforce representation.
  • Investigating discrimination, harassment and retaliation complaints.
  • Provide Complaint/Grievance forms for employees.
  • NCDOT business unit evaluations.
  • Provide technical assistance/guidance to management.​
