Lane Closures Ahead for Overhead Sign Installation Work on Interstate 73

GREENSBORO – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close lanes along I-73 South between mile markers 97 and 102 while they install an overhead sign near Groometown Road.

The right lane along this portion of highway will close from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3; and the left two lanes in the same area will close on Sunday, Jan. 7, from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m.

“The sign is too large to install while traffic is driving underneath and could present a safety hazard, thus closing the lanes is in the best interest of drivers and crew members,” said NCDOT Resident Engineer Paul Ingram.

While a full closure will not be in effect there will be slowdowns in this area. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes along I-40 in each direction along with U.S. 220 South.
