Turnpike Employees Assist Motorist Stuck in Snowstorm

RALEIGH - Triangle Expressway Roadway Manager Alan Shapiro and Bradley Young, who also works for the N.C. Turnpike Authority, went above and beyond their normal responsibilities during the winter storm that hit the state in mid-January.

While monitoring the Expressway via traffic cameras to keep an eye out for conditions on the highway, Shapiro noticed a stranded motorist along the ramp from U.S. 1 South onto the southbound Expressway.

With many drivers running into trouble around the Triangle because of the snowy conditions, Shapiro knew it would take some time to get the driver help, so he asked Bradley to meet him on the Expressway so they could personally assist the driver. Shapiro and Bradley got to the location, made sure everyone in the vehicle was alright, then helped pushed the vehicle back onto the roadway to help get it going again.
