Southbound Capital Boulevard Closure at Dortch Street This Weekend

RALEIGH – Pavement work that is part of the Capital Boulevard bridge replacements project will require a weekend closure of a section of the southbound lanes of the boulevard. Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 8, all southbound traffic will have to turn right at Dortch Street, which is less than 2/10ths of a mile south of Wade Avenue. The closure will wrap up by 6 a.m. on Monday, June 11.

Traffic diverted at Dortch Street will turn left on North West Street, which parallels Capital Boulevard, then left again on Peace Street and left onto the ramp to get back to the southbound lanes.

Drivers heading east on Wade Avenue toward southbound Capital Boulevard can turn right off the southbound ramp to reach North West Street to get to the detour route. Or they can continue onto the boulevard, but they will also have to leave the highway at Dortch Street. Access to businesses along Capital Boulevard between Wade Avenue and Dortch Street will remain open.

Law enforcement will be on hand to help with the closure. It is dependent on weather and is subject to being canceled if it rains.

Drivers are urged to slow down and pay attention as they approach the work zone and travel along the short detour route.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue ramp bridge, and the Capitol Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available through a variety of means, including the project website, as well as the NCDOT Triangle twitter feed.
