Forecasted Rain Sunday Postpones Planned Weekend Closure of Southbound Capital Boulevard

Raleigh – Rain forecasted for Sunday has postponed the scheduled weekend closure of southbound Capital Boulevard slightly south of the Wade Avenue exit. The closure was going to be for pavement improvements, but that can’t be done in rainy or wet conditions.

No rescheduled date has been set.

When the closure does finally take place, all southbound traffic will be sent off the highway at Dortch Street, which is less than 2/10ths of a mile south of Wade Avenue. The closure would be in place from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.

Drivers would then turn left on North West Street, which parallels Capital Boulevard, to reach Peace Street. If they wanted to continue south on Capital Boulevard they would turn left on Peace Street and then left onto the southbound ramp for the boulevard.

Drivers heading east on Wade Avenue toward southbound Capital Boulevard will can also turn right off the southbound ramp to reach North West Street to get to the detour route. Access to businesses along Capital Boulevard between Wade Avenue and Dortch Street will remain open.

Law enforcement will be on hand to help when a closure does take place, and drivers are urged to slow down and pay attention during any closure time.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue ramp bridge, and the Capitol Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available through a variety of means, including the project website, as well as the NCDOT Triangle twitter feed.
