Public Input Sought on Proposed Traffic Improvement Project in Jacksonville

Western Boulevard and Henderson Drive Intersection would be upgraded

JACKSONVILLE— Congestion relief and greater capacity are among the benefits of a traffic improvement project being explored on Monday, June 11, at a public meeting for the busy intersection of Western Boulevard (N.C. 53) and Henderson Drive intersection in Jacksonville.  The intersection will be improved by providing dual left turn lanes on Western Boulevard and a longer travel lane to accommodate additional traffic on Henderson Drive.

Final plans for the project are not set, so the meeting is a chance for area residents, business owners and visitors to provide input to help shape the connector’s final design.

Transportation officials will present preliminary concepts on the intersection improvements from 5 to 7 p.m., on Monday at the Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce located at 1099 Gum Branch Road. In advance of the meeting, area residents can also view a map of the project area on the NCDOT public meetings website

Interested residents may attend at any time during the meeting, as no formal presentation will be made. NCDOT representatives will be available to provide information and answer questions. The opportunity to provide written comments will also be provided.

If someone is unable to attend the meeting, they can still get project information or provide comments by contacting Eric Murray, NCDOT Division 3 project manager, at (910) 341-2000 or ecmurray@ncdot.gov.  All comments received by July 11 will be considered as the DOT refines the design proposal.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Lauren Putnam, Public Involvement Officer at lnputnam@ncdot.gov or (919) 707-6072 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.

Persons who speak Spanish and have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
