GREENSBORO – N.C. Department of
Transportation officials have been supporting clean up efforts along
state-maintained roads after a tornado slammed neighborhoods in Guilford County on Sunday, April 15. NCDOT will continue to remove
vegetative debris, from the Right
of Way, that is brought by residents to the shoulder of state-maintained
roads until 5 p.m. on Friday, June 15.
“We are
glad Division 7 crews been able to support our community in northeast Guilford
County during this trying time for so many residents left in the wake of this
devastating weather event,” said Division 7 Engineer Mike Mills.
Homeowners should keep the following in mind when
leaving items for pick up for the next week:
- Check your homeowners insurance as often debris cleanup is covered
by insurance and arrangements for its collection will be handled by the
insurance company;
- NCDOT will collect vegetation debris such as trees and limbs, as
well as building materials, but they must be separated;
- Property owners are asked to cut storm-related debris into five-
or six-foot pieces, if possible, and place it along the roadway, but out of
travel lanes;
Residents should check here to see if their
roadway is state-maintained. #GreensboroStrong
- Major appliances, household hazardous materials such as paint,
propane tanks, etc., and other similar materials will not be collected.
- It is recommended that property owners contact their county
emergency management office regarding how to dispose of those items. Furniture
will, however, be accepted.
Residents should check here to see if their roadway is state-maintained.
