INDIAN TRAIL – Motorists traveling on
U.S. 74 will encounter new traffic patterns at intersections with Wesley Chapel-
Stouts/Sardis Church Road and Faith Church Road as part of a $9.5 million
project to convert four full-movement, signalized intersections to superstreets,
a type of intersection where side-street traffic is redirected from going
straight through or left at a divided highway intersection. This design
improves safety by reducing the chance for intersection crashes, and decreases
travel time because of simplified traffic signal timing.
On Sunday night, June 17, contract crews will shift traffic where
U.S. 74 meets Wesley Chapel-Stouts Road/Sardis Church Road, redirecting turns
from side streets to right turns. Motorists wishing to turn left from side
street approaches will turn right on U.S. 74 to a new, signalized U-turn
location to head in the opposite direction. This work will begin at 9 p.m. and
finish by 6 a.m. Monday, June 18.
Part of setting up the new traffic pattern also requires
redirecting traffic on U.S. 74. Motorists wishing to turn left from U.S. 74 to
the side roads will also need to use the U-turn locations. This part of the
traffic shift will be in place up to six weeks.
Crews will set up the same traffic shift at the intersection of
U.S. 74 and Faith Church Road from 9 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 19.
Here, motorists wishing to turn left from side streets to U.S. 74 will turn
right and continue to the signalized U-turn location to head in the opposite
direction.
To turn left from U.S. 74 to the side roads, motorists will proceed
to the U-turn location to turn around for up to six weeks while crews continue
work on the final traffic pattern.
