Traffic Shift Planned for Tuesday Night on N.C. 119 at I-85/I-40 Interchange

MEBANE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews plan to shift traffic onto a new overpass bridge on N.C. 119 at the interchange for I-85/I-40 (Exit 153) in Mebane on Tuesday night, June 26.

The shift is necessary to expedite the construction of a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at that location. The DDI will improve traffic flow without requiring more traffic signals or lanes, making it easier to access the interstate and reducing traffic back-ups.

Crews will begin the traffic shift at 8 p.m. and it should be in place by 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to pay attention to signs and signals as they get used to the new traffic pattern.
