Good News for the Capital Boulevard Bridge Replacements Project in Raleigh

UPDATED RELEASE: Due to unforeseen mechanical issues, crews have not been able to open Peace Street as originally planned. The contractor is working to open the roadway as quickly as possible.

RALEIGH – Drivers who have been dealing with lane closures on Peace Street since last fall as part of the Capital Boulevard bridge replacements project are getting some good news.

Overnight tonight, June 27, the contractor will begin opening all the lanes on Peace Street between the southbound ramp off Capital Boulevard and West Street. Full lane capacity should be in place by 5 a.m. on Thursday.

Contractors will only need to install some periodic nighttime lane closures to complete any remaining work on the roadway during the rest of the project.

The initial lane closures, putting traffic into a single lane in each direction, went into place last September so the contractor could install a new culvert under the roadway in advance of the new bridge being built over Peace Street.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue ramp bridge, and the Capitol Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available through a variety of means, including the project website, as well as the NCDOT Triangle twitter feed.
