Southbound Capital Boulevard Closure at Wade Avenue Extended Until Late Monday Morning

UPDATED RELEASE: Southbound Capital Boulevard between Wade Avenue and Peace Street is now open for traffic. The opening is more than seven hours later than the time specified by the contract schedule.

RALEIGH – Mechanical issues and a weather delay have forced contractors to extend the scheduled weekend closure of a section of southbound Capital Boulevard through Monday morning. Crews are working hard and hope to have the roadway open by noon today.

Because the closure goes beyond the time allowed in the project contract, a penalty of $10,000 per each additional hour of closure can be imposed on the contractor.

The detour route remains the same as the work is completed. Southbound traffic is being diverted at Wade Avenue and will have the option to make a left turn and continue down North West Street to Peace Street or they can make a right and stay on Wade Avenue.

Drivers heading east on Wade Avenue toward southbound Capital Boulevard can turn right off the southbound ramp to reach North West Street to get to the detour route. Drivers are also urged to seek alternate routes to avoid the worksite.

Law enforcement is onsite to direct traffic. Drivers are urged to slow down and pay attention as they approach the work zone and travel along the short detour route.

Updated information on the project to replace the Wade Avenue ramp bridge, and the Capitol Boulevard bridge over Peace Street is available through a variety of means, including the project website, as well as the NCDOT Triangle twitter feed.
