One lane will remain open to traffic at
all times
WILMINGTON–Drivers heading north on the
Intersate-140 bridge over N.C. 133 in Wilmington should expect to encounter
periodic lane closures beginning Monday, July 9.
The closures are needed so N.C. Department of Transportation crews
can safely replace expansion joints. Expansion joints enable the bridge to
expand in hot weather and contract in cold weather, avoiding buckling and
prolonging the life of the bridge.
The closures will be in place from 8
a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays until Friday, July 13. One lane will remain open in
each direction at all times. All lanes will be open by the weekend.
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully through the
work zone and to expect possible delays.
