Nearly 70 Miles in Burke County to be Repaved

About 69.4 miles of roadway located along four state and federal highways, plus 60 other secondary roads will be repaved in Burke County.

The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $7.3 million contract to Maymead Inc. of Mountain City, Tennessee. Notable roadways that will be paved under this contract include the following:
• About 4 miles of Morganton Boulevard Southwest (N.C. 64) between Putnam Street and Duckworth Drive
• About 3.2 miles of Main Street West (U.S. 70) between East Union Street and Craig Avenue
• A 2 mile stretch on N.C. 126 near Old N.C. Highway 105
• About 1.8 miles of Drexel Road (N.C. 114) between Main Street West and Interstate 40

The Department awarded the contract in June 2018, and construction may start this July. The contractor has until October 2019 to complete the projects.

This was one of 25 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Per state law they went to the lowest qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth nearly $630 million.
