FRANKLIN – About 15.9 miles of road on two state and federal
highways, plus six other secondary roads will be repaved in Macon County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded an $11 million
contract to Harrison Construction Company Division of APAC-Atlantic Inc. of
Knoxville, Tenn. The asphalt will be repaved on these routes:
• About 6.2 miles northbound on Sylva Road (U.S. 23N/441N/64W)
between Roller Mill Road bridge and Brendle Road;
• About 6 miles
southbound on Sylva Road (U.S. 23S/441S/64E) between Brendle Road and Roller
Mill Road bridge;
• About 0.4 miles eastbound on Highlands Road
(U.S. 64/ N.C. 28 East) between Thomas and Rogers roads;
• About
0.4 miles westbound on Highlands Road (U.S. 64/ N.C. 28 West) between Rogers and
Thomas roads.
The Department awarded the contract in June 2018, and construction
may start in August. The contractor has until Oct., 2019 to complete the
projects.
This was one of 25 road and bridge contracts recently awarded by
the NCDOT. Per state law, they went to the lowest qualified bidder on each
project. The contracts are worth nearly $630 million.
