Public Invited to Comment on Project Proposal in Craven County

U.S. 17 would be widened between Vanceboro and Bridgeton

NEW BERN – The N.C. Department of Transportation is inviting people to comment on a proposal to widen U.S. 17 between Spruill Town Road and Antioch Road.

The Down East Regional Planning Organization submitted the project to NCDOT, and through the State Transportation Improvement Program, the proposal scored well to receive funding based on improving safety and congestion and meeting local priorities.

People may attend the public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, at Bridgeton Elementary School at 230 Branch Canal Road in New Bern. There, they will be able to ask questions, look at preliminary design maps and fill out comment cards.

Project information and materials, including the public meeting map, will be posted on this NCDOT website.

If someone is unable to attend the meeting, they can still get project information or provide comments by contacting Elizabeth Workman-Maurer, NCDOT Division 2 Project Manager, at 919-854-6221 or lsworkman@ncdot.gov. Comments will be accepted through Aug. 16.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Caitlyn Ridge, P.E. Environmental Analysis Unit Public Involvement Officer at ceridge1@ncdot.gov or 919-707-6091 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.
