Business 40 (U.S. 421 Salem Parkway) Project Closures Ahead

WINSTON-SALEM – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will close lanes along portions of eastbound Business 40 starting this weekend for paving and loop construction in Winston-Salem. This work is taking place as part of the Business 40 Improvement Project.

• The first lane closure will take place on eastbound Business 40 as it approaches Peters Creek Parkway from 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, until 7 a.m. Saturday, July 21, while crews work on tie-ins to the new exit loop.
• The second closure requires crews to close the Peters Creek Parkway exit ramp at eastbound Business 40 from 6 a.m. Saturday, July 21, until 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, while crews reconfigure the ramp into a loop.

“Once complete, the new loop will lengthen the ramp, providing additional deceleration time for drivers, ultimately increasing safety,” said NCDOT Division Engineer Pat Ivey.

Drivers will be detoured around the ramp closure utilizing Broad Street.
