CORRECTED: Public to Provide Input on Proposed Improvement Projects in Gaston County

(Editor's Note: The previous version of this news release incorrectly listed the time of the meeting. The correct time is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24.)

DALLAS – Planning is underway to widen two miles of N.C. 279 between north of Robinson-Clemmer Road and North Gaston Street, along with proposed changes to the intersection of N.C. 279 at N.C. 275 in Dallas.

Preliminary plans propose widening the existing two-lane road to four lanes, with a wider outside lane for bicycles. Sidewalks could become part of the project, contingent on municipal agreements with Gaston County and the town of Dallas. The project also calls for adding turn lanes and improving an alignment at the highway’s intersection with N.C. 275.

Transportation officials will present preliminary designs at a public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at the Dallas Fire Department Community Room, 209 W. Main St.  People may attend at any time to speak with NCDOT staff, ask questions and offer comments about the project.

Comments can be submitted by phone, mail or email through Aug. 24. Meeting materials will also be posted online as information becomes available.
