Closure lasted three months
JACKSONVILLE – A section of N.C. 53, near Pony Farm Road in Onslow County, is now open after being closed since April 23. The closure allowed an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor to install a drainage culvert as part of a safety improvement project.
“The contractor has reached a major milestone by completing the culvert installation,” said Jacksonville Resident Engineer Trevor Carroll. “Please continue to drive safely along this route since construction will continue for several more months.”
The culvert installation is part of a widening project on N.C. 53 that will add a center turn lane from Justice Road to Fit Lockamy Road. The project is slated for completion by early 2019.
