Public Meeting Planned For Hickory Tree Road Widening Project

Project Vicinity.
LEXINGTON – Transportation officials are inviting the public to participate in a community meeting on Monday, July 30, regarding a proposal to widen Hickory Tree Road between N.C. 150 and U.S. 52 in Davidson County.

The Winston-Salem Metropolitan Planning Organization (WSMPO) submitted the project to NCDOT for funding consideration in 2010. Through the Strategic Mobility Formula that prioritizes projects based on safety, congestion, benefit-cost and local priorities, it scored well enough to be funded in 2017 with construction scheduled to begin in 2023.

“The purpose of this project is to improve mobility, decrease congestion and ultimately improve safety at intersections along this heavily-traveled corridor which has significant volumes that are expected to continue to increase,” said Division Engineer Pat Ivey.

The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Midway United Methodist Church, 9795 Old Highway 52 in Lexington.

NCDOT engineers and consultants will be on hand to gather comments on the proposed design. A map of the study area, environmental features and those designs will be presented. The maps can also be viewed on the NCDOT public meetings website.

Attendees, as well as area residents who can’t attend the meeting, also have the opportunity to submit written comments and questions via mail, email or phone until Friday, Aug. 31. Anyone desiring additional information or wanting to submit comments may contact Division 9 Project Engineer Matt Jones at 375 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, mwjones@ncdot.gov, or (336) 747-7800.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Frederick Haith, Planning Engineer via email at fdhaith1@ncdot.gov or by phone (919) 707-6073 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.

Persons who speak Spanish and have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
