WINSTON-SALEM – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will close the westbound lane and narrow the eastbound lane of Business 40 between Cloverdale Avenue and Peters Creek Parkway starting tonight while crews begin foundation work on the second half of the new Peters Creek Parkway bridge in Winston-Salem.

Starting at 9 p.m., on Aug. 6, both directions of the inside lanes will be reduced to one lane, with a complete closure of the westbound lane starting at 10 p.m. Traffic will continue on this pattern nightly until the roadway reopens, weather permitting, by 6 a.m. on Aug. 17.

“In an effort to reduce the impact to daytime traffic, NCDOT has worked with the design build team to schedule additional nighttime work, add supplemental crew members, extend work hours, and offer incentives for work completed early,” said Division Engineer Pat Ivey. “This work, originally scheduled to be complete over the course of 60 days should be significantly reduced with this overnight schedule in place.”

As a reminder to drivers, ongoing closures will continue to take place ahead of the full two-year closure starting this fall for the Business 40 Improvement Project.

Westbound traffic will be able to detour using Peters Creek Parkway, West 1st Street and Cloverdale Avenue.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert, slow down in the work zone and obey the posted speed limit.
