Improvements Underway for Three Brunswick County Roads

SUNSET BEACH - A trio of road paving projects got under way this week in Brunswick County, each requiring lane closures.

In Sunset Beach, pavement patching, paving, shoulder reconstruction and pavement marking work will take place along Longwood Road (N.C. 904) between Longwood Road NW and Pea Landing Road NW, as well as on N.C. 179 (Old Georgetown Road) between N.C. 179 Business and N.C. 904.

In both locations motorists could encounter single lane closures in either direction during the day or night, depending on what work is taking place. One lane will remain open for traffic at all times.

On N.C. 179, work is expected to wrap up by Nov. 30. The project on Longwood Road is scheduled to finish by March 31, 2019.

The other project, also for paving, asphalt patching, shoulder reconstruction and pavement marking, is in Shallotte on N.C. 130 (Whiteville Road) between U.S. 17 Business and 1 ¼ miles north of Big Neck Road NW. That work will also require lane closures, but will be done at night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. through March 31, 2019.

As with the other projects, one lane will remain open at all times.
There will not be any detours for any of the three sites, but motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes if possible to avoid backups and work crews along the roads. Drivers should anticipate needing extra time to travel through the area.

Motorists are also urged to slow down as they approach the work zones and pay attention to signs and flagmen for their safety, as well as any passengers, as well as occupants of other vehicles, and for the safety of construction crews.
