Two Bridges on U.S. 70/29 & I-85 Business Being Replaced in Guilford County

JAMESTOWN – Department of Transportation contract crews are clearing land adjacent to U.S. 70/29 and Interstate 85 Business as they begin work to replace two aging bridges that span Deep River near Jamestown.

“While the roadway will not be closed, periodic nighttime lane closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., over the next 24-months,” said NCDOT Resident Engineer William Snell.

The two 200-foot bridges set for replacement between River Road and Riverdale Road were both built in 1953 and will be replaced as part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges and ensure the safety of motorists who rely on them.

An on-site detour bridge will be built parallel the roadway, minimizing potential impacts to the traveling public.

Motorists must pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
