NCDOT to Host Open House on I-95 Interchange Project in Robeson County

LUMBERTON – The N.C. Department of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting later this month on a plan to reconstruct the Interstate 95 interchange and overpass with Carthage Road (Exit 19) in Robeson County.

The department needs to build a higher and longer bridge over I-95 at Exit 19 to accommodate future plans to widen the interstate to eight lanes. To improve safety and mobility, the department also proposes realigning some of the exit’s ramps and service roads.

The department is coordinating with the city of Lumberton, which is pursuing a federal grant to transform Carthage Road into a new gateway into downtown from the interstate. NCDOT has written an endorsement letter for the city’s project to help acquiring the federal grant.

The informal open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Bill Sapp Recreation Center, 110 N. Cedar St. in Lumberton. People may drop in at any time to look at the preliminary maps, ask questions and provide comments to NCDOT representatives.

Additional information will become available at this NCDOT website.

Comments will be accepted through Sept. 28 and may be sent to Scott Pridgen, a Division 6 project leader, at 910-364-0603 or mail him at Highway Division 6, P.O. Box 1150, Fayetteville, N.C., 28302.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this workshop. Anyone requiring special services should contact Tony Gallagher at 1598 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-1598 or 919-707-6069 as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.
