WINSTON-SALEM – Road construction crews have begun work at the intersection of Eighth Street and North Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and North Cherry Street. They are adding lanes and changing traffic signals to help drivers navigate around downtown when Business 40 closes later this year.
The streets will be open, but drivers will encounter periodic lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the three roads. Work is scheduled to be completed by late October.
Business 40 is slated to close for more than a year, but there is no specific closure date yet.
NCDOT urges drivers, who normally use Business 40 to explore and find two alternate routes to get to their destination or use the PART and WSTA public transportation systems.
